“Mind&rsqu= o;s Eye,” the third release by vocalist Kama Ruby, transports the art= ist from her straight ahead jazz roots into the musical genres of classic r= ock, adult contemporary, electronic chill, and even country music. The latt= er should not be that surprising considering that she grew up in Bakersfiel= d, CA, the birthplace of the Bakersfield Sound. The result is an intriguing= and eclectic mix of signature takes on some popular and rarely heard tunes= from the past. 

Kama's first album “Kama Ruby, Straight-= up & Chilled” and her sophomore album, "Kama Ruby: Rock Drea= ms in Jazz" are both a mix of jazz standards, acid jazz, classic rock,= and pop tunes. The recordings capture the live feel of her performances an= d her unique take on familiar works. Both albums have enjoyed international= sales as well as considerable airplay on numerous jazz oriented radio stat= ions.

On this newest album, Kama casts a musical net that embraces a= wide variety of musical styles. For the first time, she has even ventured = into country music with her interpretation of “Faded Love,” a t= une made famous by the legendary “King of Western Swing” Bob Wi= lls (who happens to also be a distant cousin). 

Hints of her in= fluence by jazz and country show through clearly in her version of The Door= s’ “Riders on the Storm,” with its haunting sax and woodw= ind solos as well as the blending of lyrics from Stan Jones’ classic = western song, “Ghost Riders in the Sky.” 

Refusing = to be pigeon-holed into any one genre, her chilled take on Moby’s &ld= quo;Mistake” -  featuring long time David Bowie pianist, Mike Ga= rson -  as well as Zero 7’s “In the Waiting Line” ar= e sure to become mainstays on electronic radio stations everywhere. Her lov= e of past vocalists shows through as well with her versions of Joan Baez&rs= quo; “Diamonds and Rust” and Janis Ian’s “Ride Me L= ike a Wave.”  

Finally, Kama’s take on the son= g “Treasure Island,"  written by Jane Getz and Jon Strider,=   is highlighted by the piano and vocal skills of the legendary Jane G= etz, who also helped with the production of the album.
